Description of Services

As technology rapidly advances, architects have come to rely on the expertise of consulting specialists. Design by a team of collaborating professionals has replaced the architect/generalist approach. The lighting designer is an important member of the team - as a resource to realize the vision of the project.

Lighting Design:

Developing lighting concepts and bringing them to fruition is part of a process that begins with an understanding of the unique requirements of each project and includes a collaborative and respectful working relationship with the entire design team. LightTech provides full design services from Design Development through Construction Administration to ensure the successful completion of a project. Example: University Methodist Church

Visualizations:

“A picture is worth a thousand words.”  Oftentimes, a lighting design can’t be as easily explained in words as it can in renderings or other types of visualizations. Lighttech  can collaborate with the design team to produce renderings of illuminated spaces or nighttime renderings of buildings and structures. Sample rendering

Calculations:

An architectural lighting design should not only be aesthetically pleasing, it must also satisfy the needs of individuals who occupy the space.  By performing computer aided calculations, Lighttech verifies a project's proposed design to assure that both the aesthetic and functional needs of the users are being met.

Luminaire Design:

On occasion, the luminaires that are available “off-the-shelf” don’t satisfy the design need for a given space. LightTech can work with the design team and manufacturers to develop a modified or custom luminaire that meets both the aesthetic and practical requirements of the project. Sample custom fixture

Program Management:

So much of the outcome is determined through the development of the project. It is often difficult to understand how decisions along the way effect the lighting end result. LightTech is an active participant through the development process to insure a successful end result

Lighting Controls

A good lighting design includes an effective control system design. The system must be easy to use, efficient in eliminating energy waste and provide a productive visual environment. Lighting controls and controllable ballasts allow users to adjust light levels based on changing needs or individual preference,  through dimming or through bi- or multi-level switching. Dimming provides the greatest amount of flexibility in light level adjustment.  Technological development has increasingly automated these functions and allowed integration of devices into larger, more flexible systems. The result allows the space to be tuned to the most desirable atmosphere at the time.

Site Visits, Aiming & Programming

The design of any building, structure or space must be evaluated as the installation progresses to ensure that the final product is as it was intended.  LightTech will visit the site over the course of construction and provide valuable input to help achieve that intent.  In addition, LightTech will supervise on-site personnel in the focusing of any interior or exterior adjustable lighting and will work with manufacturers, the owner and end users to program lighting control systems.
